Reaching Our World
Reaching Our World
Nairobi Lighthouse Church is a missions church.
From its inception, the heart of Pastor Don & Amy Matheny has been to build a church that will raise great men and women of God, who would then go into the city, the nation and the world to raise more great men and women.
They have desired to see a church that will impact, in a very practical and real way, the lives of the communities and people around us. In fact, the very first cheque NLC ever wrote out was for missions!
The vision of NLC is to win souls & make disciples. We understand that this involves we take various approaches to reach into and have an impact in our families and communities, as well as train and equip believers to be able to raise up others.
NLC approaches missions in two streams – home missions – through our cell groups and within Nairobi and Kenya; and international missions – primarily targeting countries in East, Central & Southern Africa. These mission endeavours are financed from our missions faith commitment giving every year.
HOME Missions
For NLC, home missions has meant reaching the city and its environs foremost. This begins with us being a light in the communities that God has placed us in, showing and sharing His goodness with those around us. In addition, the life of NLC is found in its cell groups, where relationships are built and nurtured, and believers encourage each other in the walk of faith. As such, our cell groups provide a unique platform to reach out to and bring in those who are looking for a place to belong.
Home missions also targets needs throughout the city and country – including our annual Serve Day, prisons outreaches, mercy ministries, hospital outreaches, prayer walks, evangelism events and more. These are done both within the cell groups and corporately.
In addition, NLC aims to reach the city and nation through planting of local congregations, as well as working with like-minded partner churches in the city. Beyond Nairobi, we’ve had the privilege of directly planting NLC churches in the island of Lamu and Mombasa, and are regularly supporting various organizations working in vulnerable communities in our nation.

International Missions
NLC believes in reaching the world with the Gospel of Christ. Towards this end, we have our sights on a number of nations in Africa that we as a local church desire to impact. Already, various churches have been planted in different nations through ‘our own’ and through our partnerships with others.
We have committed to a slower, more thorough, intentional, and methodical investment in building relationships through which New Testament Christianity and a believer’s life can be molded. The aim of this investment is to promote, advance and build on the ‘why’, not just the ‘how’ of what we do. The approach we have adopted for East, South and Central Africa is to concentrate on establishing city churches throughout the nations of our zone from which other church plants will spring into surrounding areas.
