NLC Missions
Nairobi Lighthouse Church is a missions church.
From its inception, the heart of Pastor Don & Amy Matheny has been to build a church that will raise great men and women of God, who would then go into the city, the nation and the world to raise more great men and women.
They have desired to see a church that will impact, in a very practical and real way, the lives of the communities and people around us. In fact, the very first cheque NLC ever wrote out was for missions!
NLC approaches missions in two streams – serving our region: through various local outreaches and ministries within our nation, we faithfully serve the practical needs of our community; and impacting our world – fulfilling our mandate to reach the world and expanding God’s kingdom through church plants, supporting missionaries and responding to opportunities on our continent and around the world to keep making a difference.
These mission endeavours are financed from our vision giving every year.
SERVING OUR REGION
For NLC, serving our region has meant reaching the city and its environs foremost. This begins with us being a light in the communities that God has placed us in, showing and sharing His goodness with those around us. We target needs throughout the city and country – including our annual Serve Day, prisons outreaches, mercy ministries, hospital outreaches, prayer walks, evangelism events and more. These are done both within the cell groups and corporately.
In addition, NLC aims to reach the city and nation through planting of local congregations, as well as working with like-minded partner churches in the city. Beyond Nairobi, we’ve had the privilege of directly planting NLC churches in the island of Lamu and Mombasa, and are regularly supporting various organizations working in vulnerable communities in our nation.

An an orphanage taking care of vulnerable and abandoned children.
Wings of Compassion
A home for underage girls in who are in crisis pregnancies mostly as a result of abuse.
Revival Fire Ministries
Doing crusades across Africa and investing in vulnerable communities in central Kenya.
Crisis Pregnancy Ministries
A ministry under Kenya Youth for Christ providing a safehouse for teenage girls in crisis pregnancies.
Total Rehab Center
Providing specialized residential care for children with physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities, including cerebral palsy and sensory impairments.
Noweza Foundation
Started as a diaper distribution ministry, this foundation gives help to parents and families that are taking care of children with special needs – from diapers to wheelchairs to safehouses.
Bible Translation & Literacy (BTL)
BTL East Africa is working to translate the Bible in small language groups in Kenya and East Africa.
Kenya Christians Professional Forum (KCPF)
KCPF serves to harmonize the efforts of Christian Professionals from diverse denominations across the nation with a shared commitment to upholding core values centered around Life, Family, Religion, Value-Based Education, and Governance.
Kenya Prisons
Serving prisons around the nation, providing sanitary supplies and occasional meals to inmates.
Water for Water
Proceeds from sale of NLC water go into providing water in areas in our country that are in need of water – digging wells, piping water, connecting schools etc.
IMPACTING OUR WORLD
NLC believes in reaching the world with the Gospel of Christ. Towards this end, we have our sights on a number of nations in Africa that we as a local church desire to impact. Already, various churches have been planted in different nations through ‘our own’ and through our partnerships with others.
We have committed to a slower, more thorough, intentional, and methodical investment in building relationships through which New Testament Christianity and a believer’s life can be molded. The aim of this investment is to promote, advance and build on the ‘why’, not just the ‘how’ of what we do. The approach we have adopted for East, South and Central Africa is to concentrate on establishing city churches throughout the nations of our zone from which other church plants will spring into surrounding areas.
