Welcome

A Place to Call Home

Nairobi Lighthouse Church is a church that loves Jesus and committed to His cause! We believe that He has called us to win souls and make disciples of all nations, according to Matthew 28:20. His final words have become our vision, and we have made it our purpose to be a place where the lost and the hurting can come, where believers can be discipled and equipped, and where everyone in the family is involved in reaching and welcoming those without.

In our services each week, you can expect powerful praise and worship that helps us get into and stay in the presence of God and a timely and practical message coming from the Word of God to encourage, equip and challenge believers of all ages to grow in the Lord, live exemplary lives, and reach the world around us.

At NLC, you’ll find a church that believes deeply in being family. You’ll see this in our services, and even more importantly, in our interaction during the week. We are a cell group church, building relationships, discipleship and mentorship in small groups that meet in neighborhoods all over the city. Our cell groups also serve as an avenue for reaching out to family, friends and the communities around them through service and evangelism.

Finally, NLC is a church that is passionate about spreading the Gospel of Christ – supporting and planting local churches in our nation and beyond, serving our communities and neighborhoods in various ways, and supporting local organizations that work with the vulnerable in our nation.

Pastor Don & Amy Matheny

NLC was founded and is led by Pastor Don & Amy Matheny.

Pastor Don & Ms. Amy met in Kenya in 1972, were married in 1975 and immediately thereafter came to settle in Kenya, where they have now lived for almost 50 years. After years of ministry and missionary work in various parts of the country, including the unreached people groups of Coastal Kenya, God gave them the burden to come to Kenya’s capital and begin spiritually developing men and women who would take on the responsibility of seeing this, and other nations won to Christ.

That dream became NLC, opening its doors on 15th March 1987, and has grown into one of the most vibrant churches in the nation. Their heart for reaching the nation and Africa is well known on the continent, and has seen several NLC church plants and partnerships to bring up a generation of leaders and fathers who are impacting lives across Africa. Pastor Don & Ms. Amy have set their focus on 25 nations in Africa as part of the worldwide Surge project.

Pastor Don & Ms. Amy are blessed with six children – Laura (married to Jamal), Melissa (married to Joel), Rebekah (married to Allan), Anna (married to Pr. Baita), Krista and David (married to Christa), and are grandparents to eight grandchildren.

Pastoral Team

Nairobi Lighthouse Church has been blessed with the greatest team of pastors anyone could ask for! And we don’t just say that because we love them – which we do – but because they truly are the best!
